On March 3rd, 2020, the Blue Dragons traveled to Hartford to battle the Trojan’s in the opening round of Region 3A Playoffs.

The visiting Blue Dragons stumbled out of the gates the 1st quarter as they could only muster 4 points, while giving up 12.

“We were doing a very nice job executing our offense, which gave us some great looks, but nothing was falling,” explained Heitkamp. “We made the decision to go man-to-man the 2nd quarter, which ultimately got us back into the game.”

In the second stanza the Blue Dragons amped up their defensive pressure holding West Central to 9 points, while lighting up the scoreboard with 19 points, taking the lead into halftime 23-21.

“I was so proud of how the kids battled back the 2nd quarter. We have shown over and over throughout the season that we can play with anyone on any given night,” said Heitkamp.

Unfortunately, the Blue Dragons couldn’t keep that momentum going the final 16 minutes as West Central upended the Blue Dragons 56-42. Josef Zahn (9 rebounds) led the way in the scoring column with 10 points, while Cooper Long collected 9 points of his own. Dylan Kindt and Trey Buckneberg each dropped down 8 points, Cole Skadsen and Jake Schroeder rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points.

“The season sure didn’t go the way we had hoped, but this coach was very proud of the effort given day in and day out! They never gave up, which is something they all can build upon in the game of life,” said Heitkamp.

The boys basketball program would once again like to thank everyone for their support throughout the season and wish our four seniors the best of luck with their future endeavors.
