Update on the Garretson Pool, lots of repairs & replacements with new Frozen Fridays

The Garretson community sure has been making a splash at the pool so far this season. While the season was slow to start, with our first official day being 6.8.22, things picked up and haven't slowed down since.

pool improvements
Updates included a replacement of the pool decking and a new shed.

There have been a lot of changes behind the scenes at the pool this season. We started it with Concrete Pros coming in and tearing out the old broken pool decking and replacing it with new concrete - working with Steve's Electric and Plumbing, the deck drains were also replaced so as to prolong the life of the bathhouse footings and the pool deck itself.

There was also a new shed brought in for storage purposes which freed up the bathhouse showers, which were partially being utilized for storage.

With all of the changes we were anxious to get the season underway only to find out the pool pump and vacuum had to be replaced. The pump, after 41 years of service which included a complete rebuild 2 years ago, was simply needing to be replaced as the pump parts were becoming harder and harder to find. The vacuum also served valiantly with numerous fixes throughout the years, but was suffering the same fate as the pump.

The pool brought in a new manager this season, Riley Altman, who has worked very hard to take over that role. We welcomed back some returning lifeguards and also were able to bring on some new faces. The entire pool staff has done a wonderful job ensuring the community of Garretson has a fun, safe, and cool place to be this summer!

On a hot day, you might even catch some of the lifeguards showing off their diving board skills during breaks, which the kids really enjoy watching.

Frozen Friday is a new implementation this summer; we have had great success with area businesses sponsoring a Frozen Friday and providing a treat to all pool goers. Every Friday the announcement of Frozen Friday is a surprise - you never know when the staff is going to open it up. The kids have enjoyed waiting anxiously for the announcement each week.

Frozen Friday has been so successful we are also implementing Treat Tuesday. If your business is interested in sponsoring a day, please reach out to the pool manager during pool hours or email the pool at .

Swimming lessons are being held July 25-29 up at the pool with various classes and times available. There is still time to sign up - stop up at the pool during pool hours to do so. There is financial assistance available for swimming lessons, which can be discussed at the time of sign up or you can email the pool email address to discuss.

The pool board looks to continue to implement changes at the pool in the upcoming seasons as we are able.

We appreciate the community support and look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming annual auction. The auction is being held August 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in the pool parking lot. Please donate any items up at the pool after 1:00 p.m. that afternoon; if you need someone to pick up your items, please reach out to any board member, message the pool Facebook page, or email the pool email address.

There will be a hot dog meal available for purchase and of course the pies will be rolling in and awaiting the highest bidder.

The last day of the season is tentatively Friday, August 12th with a slight possibility of being open through the weekend and closing Monday the 15th. Exact dates will be announced as we get closer to that time and know our staffing capabilities.
