Trunk or Treat to be held at Split Rock Park

Trunk or Treat

In 2020, the Garretson Commercial Club held a Trunk or Treat at Split Rock Park on Halloween. Due to its popularity, it will be held again in 2021, and they are inviting the Garretson community to participate and create a “spooky trail.” It will be held on Sunday, October 31 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Each vehicle will be asked to park in a campsite prior to the start of the event, and can decorate that site as much as they like along with decorating their vehicle.

Commercial Club President John Brinkman notes that the set-up will be free, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis on the day of the event. Any of the sites prior to the parking lot will be available for use as long as it’s not reserved, with RV sites going first. Decorators are welcome to start setting up as early as they wish.

Once set-up is complete, the community is invited to trick or treat along the trail.

Trick or treating around Garretson is slated to occur that evening as well, with community members excited to continue a long-standing tradition. Normally, most porch lights come on around 6:00 p.m. and turn off by 8:00 p.m.

As the pandemic is still ongoing, community members are encouraged to continue safe practices. For those not able or willing to participate in trick or treating events, different ideas such as an at-home scavenger hunt, movie night, and pumpkin carving have been suggested.

The key for a successful Halloween event is to be creative and have fun while keeping the community safe, and to encourage everyone to keep an eye out for each other. Drive slowly and watch the streets for little goblins that may dash out in front of you, and those with older children who may trick or treat alone are encouraged to have a conversation with them regarding safety and etiquette prior to the events.

The Commercial Club also wants to remind the community that the trunk or treat event is weather permitting, though trick or treating has occurred through rain or snow!
