The Blue Dragon Academy hosted their first fundraiser for their expansion project this past Sun- day, Sept. 12. The “Character” breakfast featured an all you can eat pancake buffet with Cosplayers of favorite fictional characters. They also featured a truck show and tell in the school parking lot across the street, showcasing a Humvee from the SD National Guard, two Minnehaha police cruisers, the Garretson Ambulance, the Garretson Volunteer Fire Department, Garbage ‘N More garbage truck, a lawn tractor and some long haul commercial trucks.
“We were extremely pleased with the turnout, we served 346 people, as of right now we’ve raised $5,200 dollars,” said Kris Frerk of the BDA board. “Our raffle goes until Dec. 11, and people can still get raffle tickets at future events or get tickets at First Bank & Trust here in Garretson, at Jesse James Country Store and the Treasure Chest, or even online using Venmo. I hear that they were very busy across the street too. I want to thank all the staff members from BDA, the local students and volunteers who came to help out and dress up. It was a smash hit with people of all ages, but especially the children.”
The next BDA fundraising events will be happening on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Blue Dragon Academy. They will be hosting a vendor fair, featuring Annie’s Coffee’s famous Cinnamon Rolls and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Rainy Day Coffee truck will also be serving coffee from 9 a.m. to noon.
