The Blue Dragons took a road trip south on I-29 to battle the Vermillion Tanagers January 21st, 2022. The Blue Dragons battled for three and a half quarters, but came up just short 53-44 when the final buzzer sounded.
“The team played probably one of their best games of the season” stated Coach Heitkamp. “We were working hard on both ends of the court, but we just didn’t make a couple of key plays throughout the game to bring home a victory.”
The Blue Dragons went into the final stanza only down 4 points, but unfortunately Vermillion found their shooting stroke as they scored 20 points to the visiting teams 15.
“We made some great strides this evening and hopefully this effort proves to the guys that they can compete with anyone in Class A Basketball” mentioned Heitkamp.
Cooper Long and Sam Schleuter had the hot hand for the Blue Dragons as they dropped in 15 and 13 points, while Dylan Kindt had a solid all around game with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Cadyn Ockenga added 4 points of his own, while Clay Lardy and Rhett Kloth (6 rebounds and 2 blocks) rounded out the scoring with 2 and 1 point respectively.
