On February 1, ownership of Sanders Printing Company assets was transferred to Preferred Printing of Sioux Falls, and over the next few months, several pieces of equipment were moved out of the facility that housed the business for over a century. On June 3, a final auction was held, with several Sanders family members in attendance.
Owner Bob Sanders was once a co-owner with his brother, Bill. Over its 115-year life, at least one Sanders has owned a stake in the company. It began in 1906 when John G. Sanders moved to Garretson and acquired the Garretson News from two men listed in the paper's masthead only as "Swift & Ham," and grew from there. The newspaper was sold in the mid-90's and focused on the print shop aspect of the business, and Bob eventually bought out his brother's stake, leaving him as the sole owner.
