The Blue Dragons Stumble At Home

Date:

The Blue Dragons played host to Dell Rapids St. Mary’s on January 30th, 2023, but unfortunately the Blue Dragons came up short after playing a solid first quarter 32-69.

The Blue Dragons played an energetic style of basketball the opening 8 minutes as they were only down 4 points going into the 2nd stanza.

“We did a really nice job executing offensively to open the game, but our defense let us down” indicated Heitkamp. “We were not flying around the court and/or communicating with each other giving the Cardinals a lot of uncontested shots and second chance scoring opportunities.

The coaching staff always focuses on certain topic during almost every practice and communication is one of those topic…we need to be better in that area!” Ramsey Schweitzer (5 rebounds and 3 assists) and Ian Buetter were the leading scorers with 7 points each, as Blaine Trower added 6 points of his own. Sam Schleuter and Tyler Edmundson added 5 and 4 points, while Treyton Decker and Brecken Weir rounded out the scoring with 2 and 1 point respectively.

The following night, January 31st, 2023, the Blue Dragons were right back at it facing rivals…the Baltic Bulldogs! The Blue Dragons came out flat and were never able to rebound as they were defeated 36-60.

“As a coaching staff we were ready to get back on the court to get rid of that bad taste in our mouth, but that wasn’t the case for the players” stated Coach Heitkamp. “For some reason we were not able to match their intensity (Baltic), which led to a tough night of basketball for the home team. Baltic hit a couple of shots early in the game and we didn’t fight to get back in the game.”

Ramsey Schweitzer had the hot hand for the Blue Dragons as he netted 15 points and collected 7 rebounds. Sam Schleuter and Ian Buetter (8 rebounds) collected 7 and 5 points, as Blaine Trower (6 rebounds) and Dylan Jessen dropped in 4 and 3 points, while Cole Jessen finished the night with 2 points.
