School board talks lunch prices and electric bus savings

The Garretson School Board had their regular meeting on June 10, 2024 starting at 6 p.m.  The meeting discussed budget updates, their annual report, lunch price increases and personnel changes, and insurance premiums. Business Manager Jacob Schweitzer also discussed offering a 12-month payment option for classified staff, which would alleviate difficulties during school breaks.

Aside from the Gazette reporter, only school board member-elect Natasha Mendoza was present, and the meeting was fairly short.

Having received a building and liability insurance price quote from their provider that day, the board added discussion and potential approval of that expense to the tail end of the agenda.

During their consent agenda, Supt. Guy Johnson wanted to make special note of some personnel changes.

“Lauren Stoterau has now taken a job with the Moody County Extension office, so she has turned in her resignation for her teaching position,” said Supt. Johnson. “However, she would like to remain in her position as our school’s volleyball coach. So, to replace her, we were lucky enough to be able to hire one of our own. Dakota Johnson is a Garretson graduate who has now become a teacher himself. We felt this would be a great fit for him, and he will be joining the team starting this fall. We’re feeling pretty positive about that.”

Correction 7/3/24: In the school board article we published on June 20th we incorrectly transposed the numbers. Nordstrom’s Automotive actually gave $2,100 each to the Blue Dragon Boosters and the Garretson PTO!
