On Monday, June 21, demolition of the Rosalee’s Salon LeBeau started. Owner Norm DeWit said there were just no good options but to start the teardown. The building had been unoccupied for several decades. Regular readers will recall the several stories the Gazette did about the renovations of the former Senior Citizen Center into new apartments by Mr. DeWit. During our first interview he said that he hoped he’d be able to turn the building into a parking garage, but if it wasn’t structurally sound then it would have to be demolished and the site would become a parking lot instead.
“Once we got into it, there was just no salvaging the situation,” he said. “Maybe if the roof hadn’t given out there wouldn’t have been so much weather damage inside, but there was just too much damage. At this time, I can’t see any way to preserve the building, and those walls are too tall and too heavy to hang without internal support, so we’ve got to take it all down.”
DeWit also said that the newly renovated apartment which suffered from a small one room fire just a few short months ago has been fully repaired and restored.
