Roberts encourages kids of all ages to find their spark!

Last Tuesday, March 5, Tom Roberts brought joy and laughter to the hearts of children of all ages in Garretson.

Roberts is an Ipswich, SD native and has spent a lifetime in the performing arts in South Dakota. From historical reenactments, to the Artist in the School’s programs, to community theater, he's wellknown around the state.

In the interactive portion of the program, Tom Roberts gives local kids difficult tasks while blindfolded with minimum and deliberately vague instructions. All to the theme that it’s okay to ask for help.

Most recently he’s portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge for the past three years at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Sioux Falls in Premiere Playhouse's annual production of A Christmas Carol.

Aside from being involved in theatrical productions all over the state, he has worked for Children’s Home Society, an organization that takes care of the children that society has forgotten, neglected, or abused. He knows in-depth how kids need mental health care and support.

Roberts has also written a number of nationally successful children’s books, the proceeds of which have all gone to the Children’s Home Society Foundation. His latest book, “A New Norm,” was funded and published in partnership between Avera Hospital and Children’s Home Society to promote mental health care.

The program on March 5 began with an introduction from Brian and Julie Gregg of Garretson United Methodist Church.
