Ten Red Hatters boarded two vehicles and journeyed to the Montrose exit on I90 to view Porter’s Sculptures. We paid the asked admission. Some made use of the two golf carts he supplies and we began down the buzzard’s trail. The owner’s sister and her friend were spending their fifth and last day there, cleaning and painting the sculptures. This made a big improvement to those she worked on. Of course, that was not sufficient time to do all the sculptures. They asked to take our photo when we finished looking.
Of special interest to us was the huge horse brought to the field this year. Scaffolding is still in place as it is not completely placed yet. The big bull has an opening in the rear, allowing entrance to view the man way up high and the bats, snakes and spiders. Both the horse and bull are made of railroad plates and are very detailed. There are signs throughout with poems, mostly his words, and telling of the sculptures.
The weather was perfect due to a mild temperature and a slight wind to keep the bugs inactive. We could not see his invisible large ball of twine but we read of it.
We left at noon, lunch time for us ladies. One had read of a restaurant opening near Walmart North West. After searching for a while, with the aid of a smart phone GPS we found the grill and pub. They had good food. Several of the ladies ordered Dirty Fries and the rest of us wondered why. They said the Dirty Fries were tasty.
We journeyed home, arriving about 2:30 P.M. Thanks to Dorothy for planning another interesting day for us.
