Pickleball. That is a strange word. What is it? Is it a game? What is it played on? What special equipment is needed? Are there teams? How many on a team?
Is it always the same amount? How is it scored? Are there leagues? Are there tournaments? Do teams travel to other courts in different towns? What does a court look like? Are special colors required?
These are some of the questions we Red Hatters had on our way in.
After a long dormant time during the pandemic, the Red Hatters went on an outdoor outing. We carpooled and ate at a restaurant with outdoor seating.
Next, we went to the Golden Eagle Court, where the game was explained and demonstrated. It was obvious players enjoyed the game and they admitted it can be addictive.
It looked to be good exercise too. In fact, more energy required than we senior Red Hatters have.
The many rules seemed complicated, and scoring appeared difficult to calculate.
The paddles were then handed to some Red Hatters. They went out on the court to get the feel of the game. They seemed in no hurry to stop playing.
It was an interesting outing to become familiar with Pickleball. The weather was perfect to be outdoors. Perhaps Pickleball will soon be playing in Garretson- indoors and outdoors.
