Park Benches made with 21st Century tech made possible by community generosity!

The reveal!

It was a needful thing. In Garretson our parks are our pride, and the park benches in Splitrock Park suffered severe damage this last winter as result of the large ice floes. The Garretson City Parks Board was aware of the situation and Grow Garretson, through its non-profit status, was in a position to help.

An idea was spitballed, can we get new park benches placed in all our parks and in and around town?  The answer, yes we can.

Carrie Moritz of the Parks Board and Grow Garretson.

“I want to thank all the families, businesses, and organizations that are here today,” said Carrie Moritz, who sits both on the parks board and is the club secretary for Grow Garretson. “This would not have been possible without your generosity. You made this dream a reality. Our initial goal was 10 benches, but because of your generous donations we went way past that goal and then some, and are proud to dedicate these 20 benches to you and your families, and to this community.”

The Tyrrell family

“These benches are extremely durable, resin wood made of 100 percent recycled materials that doesn’t rust, stain, scratch or fade; they could last us for the next 50 years, or so we’ve been told,” said Coleen Collier of the Garretson Parks Board. “We wanted them to be strong, and to last, so we were very particular in what we selected. They will stand up to weather, vandalism and they will be anchored to concrete pads that Crete Pros will be installing. Another great feature is that we’ll be able to easily move them in winter to avoid damage. They are also engraved so we don’t have to worry about plaques being weather damaged, destroyed or stolen. If that wasn’t enough they’re 100% made in the USA.”
