Last week Thursday, Garretson traveled to Montrose to take on McCook County/Montrose (MCM) in their second battle of the season, as Garretson had beat MCM only five days before in the Big East Conference.
The Dragons took off, snagging the first two points in the game and quickly widening their lead, heading into the second quarter 13-3. They kept their strong lead in the second quarter, going into the half 29-18. The third quarter didn't see much of a change as the two teams kept pace, though MCM worked hard to keep Garretson down while they tried to catch up, going into the 4th 38-31. In the fourth, the Dragons had no trouble holding the Cougars at bay, and they ended the game with a 12-point lead, 52-40.
It was a repeat of the Big East game against Flandreau, as well, as the Garretson team hosted Flandreau on Monday. Unfortunately, Flandreau again took the lead and refused to let go as they charged down the court, leaving the Dragons in their dust.
While the two teams battled it out in the first part of the first quarter, it was as though the Fliers were just playing with their prey, outmaneuvering the Dragons and ending the quarter 20-6. Garretson played some solid moves, but were unable to get around the fast moves the Fliers played. They went into the half 14-35, and in the second half, history was repeated as Flandreau held Garretson down and pulled further ahead, just as it had a week earlier. They ended the game 32-71.
The Dragons faced off with Beresford on Tuesday (results not available at press time), and will take on Elkton-Lake Benton in a double header on Saturday, with the game beginning at 12:00 p.m. Another double header will occur next Tuesday with Parker, with the girls starting at 6:00 p.m. It will be the final home game of the regular season.
