Obituary: Clarissa Mae Breyfogle, age 87

            Clarissa Mae Breyfogle, age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Garretson, SD on Saturday October 5, 2024.

            Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson, SD with Fr. Kevin O’Dell celebrating.  Inurnment will take place at a later date at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

            In lieu of flowers, family wish memorials to be directed to the Garretson Food Pantry.

Clarissa was born April, 16, 1937 in Slayton, MN to Clarence and Mabel (Peterson) Wigton. On April 16, 1956, Clarissa was united in marriage to James Breyfogle in Marshall, Minnesota. In 1976, Clarissa and James moved their family to an acreage near Garretson, SD; where Clarissa was able to have a beautiful flower garden and enormous vegetable garden where she would spend hours.

            Clarissa was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She had a love of family that brought her so much joy to her life. She enjoyed riding horses on trail rides, playing cards and games, sewing clothes, and traveling. Clarissa enjoyed spending many weekends up at Lake Shetek with family and being out on the water. She enjoyed watching grandkids in various activities.

            Grateful for having shared her life was the love of her life and husband, James, until his death in 2007; Five children, James Breyfogle of Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Lane of Garretson, SD, Rebecca (Dean) Caton of Yankton, SD, Chuck Breyfogle (Mary D.) of Garretson, SD, and Cindy (Dean) Olson of Sherman, SD; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters; sisters Jean Popowski of Staples, MN; and Betty Wigton of Brandon, SD.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Louis, Lee, Joyce, Clarence, and Jerry; grandson, Keith Lane; great grandson Hayden Caton.
