Letter to the Editor: What’s New at the Pool?

Date:

Funny you should ask! There is a lot going on at the pool this season. Before opening for the season, two major projects were completed. The floor throughout the entire bathhouse was coated with a long-lasting product to preserve and protect the cement flooring. It not only looks great, it is also safer for our staff and patrons as the floor is not as slippery when wet. Thank you to the Red and Myrtle Sass family as their generous donation to the pool helped fund this project.

We also had the roof replaced with steel shingles, compliments of Brad Halverson and his company, ABC Seamless. Brad donated the entire project to the Garretson Community Foundation for a much-needed maintenance of the bathhouse. The Pool Board would like to thank Brad and ABC Seamless for this generous donation to our community pool.

The next big project the pool board plans to complete is building a pergola to provide shade in the wading pool area. The funds for this project were donated in memory of Ralph Schreurs.

Our big summer fundraiser is the annual Pool Auction, which is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the pool. This year our annual auction will be "live", with Bob Julson once again volunteering to be the auctioneer. We are accepting donations of salable items for the auction.

The highlight of the auction will be delicious, homemade pies donated by many local pie makers! Concessions, cold drinks and a grilled all beef hot dog meal will also be available throughout the auction

Please note that there are some items which we cannot accept. These items include electronics (TVs, computers, etc.), appliances (stoves, microwaves, washers, dryers, etc) and clothing.

If you have a donation, please call Karla Godbey (594-6768), Jason Bohl (594-3837), or the pool office (594-3126). Members of the pool board will be happy to pick up donated items on the day of the auction. Donations may also be dropped off at the pool beginning in the afternoon of August 7th.

It is important for all of us to realize and remember that the Garretson Pool is community owned, even though the City of Garretson assists us financially as needed. So, mark the date on your calendar! Plan to come out and support our community-owned pool!

Sincerely, Karla Godbey and the Garretson Community Pool Board
