Letter to the Editor: Concerning the Walleye Wind Project

Date:

Dear Editor:
Walleye Wind, LLC is proposing a wind farm in Southwest Minnesota, along the South Dakota state line, with hopes to build this fall. The project would consist of up to 40 turbines covering nearly 31,000 acres on the state line southeast of Garretson, northeast of Valley Springs, and surrounding Beaver Creek MN. The nearest turbines are planned within 4 miles of Palisades State Park.

Many South Dakota residents near the project area are concerned about some of the negative impacts this project poses to wildlife, noise levels, visual impacts, property values, human and livestock health, and overall reduced quality of life. The Garretson area is well known for its natural beauty, drawing many tourists to the community each year, and this project would forever alter the landscape we cherish for many miles as some of the turbines will tower over 580 feet from the ground to blade tip.

If you have comments or concerns about this project, now is the time to speak up!
