Garretson Legion Downs Dell Rapids, 6-4
Garretson Legion defeated Dell Rapids 6-4 on Tuesday, July 13.
Dell Rapids got things started in the second inning when an error scored one run for Dell Rapids.
In the bottom of the second inning, Garretson Legion tied things up at one. Brady DeBates hit a solo homer, knocking the ball over the fence for a solid play.
Garretson Legion then pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Ryan Flanagan singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and DeBates singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Isaiah Gnadt pitched Garretson Legion to victory. Gnadt went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Cole Koch threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Koch recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for Garretson Legion.
N Swartout took the loss for Dell Rapids. Swartout lasted three innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out one.
Garretson Legion totaled six hits. Tayson Swatek and DeBates all managed multiple hits for Garretson Legion. DeBates and Swatek each managed two hits to lead Garretson Legion.

Garretson Legion defeated Legion Flandreau Post 70 6-0 on Thursday, July 15 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Brady DeBates struck out Camden Schmidt to finish off the game.
In the second inning, Garretson Legion got their offense started when Jake Schroeder tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
A double by Sam Gassman in the third inning was a positive for Legion Flandreau Post 70.
Schroeder earned the win for Garretson Legion. Schroeder lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four. DeBates threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. DeBates recorded the last ten outs to earn the save for Garretson Legion.
Gassman took the loss for Legion Flandreau Post 70. The pitcher allowed two hits and five runs over two and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Jayse Miller, DeBates, Schroeder, and Carson Clark each collected one hit to lead Garretson Legion.
Late Score Costs Garretson Legion Against Volga Post 114
Garretson Legion lost the lead late in a 5-2 defeat to Volga Post 114 on Monday. The game was tied at two with Volga Post 114 batting in the top of the seventh when Conner Logan doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Garretson Legion tied things up at two. An error scored one run for Garretson Legion.
Parker Puetz led the Volga Post 114 to victory on the mound. The fireballer went seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out nine.
Cole Koch took the loss for Garretson Legion. Koch lasted one inning, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Dylan Kindt started the game for Garretson Legion. The lefthander surrendered two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out 11.
Kindt and Brady DeBates each collected one hit to lead Garretson Legion.
Volga Post 114 totaled seven hits. Puetz and Logan each managed multiple hits for Volga Post 114.
The Garretson Legion team then began its postseason play, facing off against Flandreau and Dell Rapids again in Flandreau this past Tuesday (results unavailable at press time). The winner will head to Groton on July 30 through August 3rd to play in the Class B Senior Tournament.
Garretson 14U Can't Quite Erase 7-Run Deficit in Loss to Elkton
In its final post-season game, Garretson 14U's effort to come back from down seven runs in the fifth inning came up just short, as they fell 20-19 to Elkton on Tuesday, July 13. Garretson 14U scored six runs in the failed comeback on a single by Carsten Rozeboom in the sixth, a single by Tyler Erickson in the sixth, a single by Cole Jessen in the sixth, a groundout by Noah Schotzko in the sixth, and a walk by Caleb Westerbur in the seventh.
Garretson 14U collected seven hits and Elkton had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
Garretson 14U opened up scoring in the second inning when Isaac Stoterau singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Elkton took the lead for good with six runs in the third inning. In the third Westerbur's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Elkton, Andrew drew a walk, scoring one run, and Sam grounded out, scoring three runs.
Garretson 14U put up five runs in the sixth inning. Rozeboom, Erickson, Jessen, and Schotzko each had RBIs in the frame.
Nate toed the rubber for Elkton. The hurler lasted three and a third innings, allowing two hits and ten runs while striking out two.
Westerbur led things off on the mound for Garretson 14U. Westerbur allowed seven hits and 14 runs over three innings, striking out one. Dylan Wolf threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Erickson led Garretson 14U with two hits in three at bats. Erickson led Garretson 14U with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.
Elkton tallied 11 hits. Nate, Jack, Ashton, and Colt each collected multiple hits for Elkton. Nate went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Elkton in hits. Elkton stole 14 bases during the game as five players stole more than one. Ashton led the way with three.
