The GHS Girls Basketball team has continued its winning streak, facing up against the two Dell Rapids teams in their last two games. On Tuesday, Coach Matt Schrank sent the Gazette these comments:

“We haven’t played since Dec. 22nd, when we hosted Dell Rapids Public,” said Coach Matt Schrank. “We host DRSM tonight, (Tuesday, Jan. 5th) and then we go to Tea for a huge matchup on Saturday (Jan 9th).

Junior Jaelyn Benson works to get around a block.

“We squeezed out our 6th victory against Dell Rapids 52-44 just before Christmas. It wasn’t our prettiest performance, but we were able to get the job done. Leading the way for us was senior, Peyton Hove with 12 points, Lily Ranschau added 11 points, and Lizzie Olson had 10. Mattea Fiegen led the way in rebounds with 8. Jaelyn Benson had 4 assists, and Lily Ranschau had 4 steals.”

The GHS team was victorious against an aggressive DRSM team on Tuesday, with a final score of 71-60. Until half-time, the teams stayed neck in neck, each team pulling slightly ahead just to be kept on their toes by the other team's comeback. The Lady Dragons pulled out all the defensive stops, often blocking the ball and keeping DRSM from scoring. They got the upper hand in the 3rd Quarter and didn't let go, widening the gap. An attempt by DRSM to rally placed the score at 58-50, and the Dragons fought harder to widen the gap again.

They will play again on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Tea, and Tuesday in Flandreau at 6:15 p.m.
