Last Tuesday, the Garretson Cross Country team headed to Volga for the Sioux Valley Invite, competing with teams such as West Central, Deuel, Estelline/Hendricks, Clark, Flandreau, and Madison.
Boys Varsity had four competitors from Garretson, placing sixth overall. Sophomore Carter Siemonsma, who has been placing near or at the top for Garretson this season, took home fifth place with a time of 17:53.74. Teammates Sebastian Deyoung, Ethan McGregor, and Noah Schotzko came in together at 37, 38, and 39th place, respectively, with times just over 20 minutes.
The JV boys took home 3rd overall, with Talon Miller in the top eight with a time of 17:13.03 on the 4,000-meter route. He was followed closely by Michael Hanisch, who placed 11th. Cooper Smith, Bence Bonte, and Lukas Ludewig were in the top twenty.
JV girls only saw Eliza Potter compete for Garretson, taking home 22nd place.
Garretson will be hosting the Big East Conference today (Thursday), with Varsity girls beginning at 1:00 p.m., Varsity boys at 1:30 p.m., JV girls at 2:00 p.m., and JV boys at 2:30 p.m. Next week, they'll start wrapping up their season with the Region 2A meet in Volga.
