GHS Volleyball 7-7, Will face Elkton and Dells next week

Date:

Last week, the Blue Dragon Volleyball team faced two of the toughest opponents in the region, hosting Dell Rapids and Chester. While the Dragons did their best to match up against the two top-seed teams, they came up short in both at 0-3.

On Tuesday, the Dell Rapids Quarriers entered the gym ready to rumble. The 8-2 team roared into the lead immediately, using a higher-than-average height to their advantage. The Dragons didn't go down easily though, and worked hard to keep pace. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome the Quarriers' point advantage, and ended the game 20-25, 20-25, 12-25.

On Thursday, a second powerhouse team came into town for a re-match against the Dragons. Chester had handily beat Garretson in the Big East Conference Tournament, and Garretson was hoping to overpower the 15-0 team and cause their first loss of the season. While the Dragons pulled into the lead early in the first set, the Flyers soon showed them why they're a top seed. The game ended with the Flyers taking the win 14-25, 14-25, 17-25.

Now sitting at 7-7 for the season, the Dragons hoped to take the win from Alcester-Hudson on Tuesday (results not available at press time). They'll take to the court three times next week, starting on Monday, October 7 in Elkton-Lake Benton, and will be in Garretson on Tuesday, October 8 with Varsity playing at 7:15 p.m. against Dell Rapids St. Mary's.
