Back in 2015 we featured Garretson Athlete Bryce Wollmann as he became the State Champion power lifter for South Dakota. At the time, he entered the contest with fellow GHS senior Matt Johnson and a freshman student, Zeb Johnson. One off-hand comment he made to the Gazette editor stuck in the mind.
“You watch Zeb,” said Wollmann. “He’s got a lot of dedication, heart and talent. I can see him doing really well in the next few years.”
This has proved to be the case. In a power lifting contest this past weekend at Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Zebadiah Johnson, placed second in his weight class, at only 160 pounds himself, performed a 375 pound squat, a 245 pound bench and a 440 pound dead-lift.
“He’s worked really hard, done a great job and made his mom and I really proud,” said Guy Johnson. “We’ve got the state meet in just a few weeks and Zeb is hoping to qualify for nationals too.”
One thing’s for sure, folks in Garretson and his fellow Blue Dragons will be cheering him on.
