On Saturday, September 11, the Blue Dragon soccer team faced up against Dakota Valley, coming away with a final score of 1-2.
"We were aggressive right off the bat and held with them the entire game," said coach Amber Williamson. "We were able to possess the ball in the midfield and played solid defense."
Cortney Rogich had 16 saves in goal, Kylie Christensen scored off of a corner kick by Jenna VanHolland, VanHolland had 5 shots on goal, Christensen 3, Madison Ljunggren 2 and Joely Sterud & Jordyn Williams 1.
The team next went to Vermillion to take on the Tanagers on Tuesday, Sept 14, but could not prevail again, heading home with a score of 1-5. The teams were close at halftime, 1-2, but the Tanagers would not allow the Dragons to score.
"We were on our offensive half possessing the ball for the majority of the game, but could not find the back of the net," said Coach Williamson.
Cortney Rogich had 10 saves in goal. The Dragons' lone goal came from Raegen Altman and was assisted by Jordyn Williams. Paige Sterud, Joely Sterud and Jenna VanHolland each had two shots on goal. Madison Ljunggren and Morgan Damman each had 1 shot on goal.
The team had another two-day rest, then took on the West Central Trojans on the home field on Thursday, September 16. Despite fighting hard, the Dragons gave up two goals as the Trojans pressed the Dragons away from their net, not allowing the home team to gather any points. Final score was 0-2.
The Dragons weren't about to let three losses in a row get the better of them as they took on Groton Area at home on Saturday, Sept 18. Both teams kept each other away from the net, unable to find the back of it, and ended the game in a tie 0-0.
They had a third game on the home turf on Tuesday, Sept 21 (results unavailable at press time), when they hosted Dakota Valley for a re-match. They will be playing their final game of the regular season this Thursday as they head to Sioux Falls Christian.
