GHS Football 1-1, 21-0 Victory!

GHS Football had a rough start last week, with a loss of 0-20, but they flipped that right around with a 21-0 victory against Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn.

In the first quarter at 7:58 Dylan Kindt made a complete pass to Cole Skadssen who ran it in for a touchdown. Cody Erikson kicked a successful goal.

The Blue Dragons made two other touchdowns thanks to interceptions! WWSSC’s Cayden Slykhuis pass, intended for Wesley Linking was instead caught by Dominic Abraham who ran it in for a touchdown, Erikson again getting an extra point. There was no score in the third quarter.

At the very end of the fourth quarter, (with six seconds left on the board), WWSSC had possession, and Slykhuis threw a pass, this time intended for Tryce Slykhuis, but was intercepted by Dustin Hass of the Blue Dragons, who scored the third touchdown of the night. Erikson again kicked successfully, not missing any extra point opportunities that night.

“We established some things offensively a little bit better this week,” said Coach Chris Long. “We should have scored more points on the offensive side of things but many of our drives stalled with penalties which is something we have to clean up this week.”

“Defensively we did a nice job again, our front five did a nice job getting to their responsibilities which allows our linebackers some space and freedom to make plays.  We have to continue to do our jobs and not try to do things as individuals.”

Local Blue Dragon Fans will be happy as the next two weeks will be home games, Beresford on Sept. 6th and McCook/Montronse on Sept. 13th.

“Beresford (1-1) comes to town this week.,” said Coach Long. “They have some dynamic athletes so we will need to be ready to adjust to the speed of the game.  If we continue to improve in all the phases of the game we could be a fun team to watch!”
