GHS at the State B Golf tournament

Date:

On June 7-8, the GHS Golf Team competed at the State B Tournament in Brookings with the girls at Edgebrook GC and the Boys at the Brookings CC. Both teams qualified by earning 1st (girls) and 2nd (boys) at the Region 3 B Meet two weeks prior. Both teams struggled a bit on the first day but rebounded nicely on the next. Our top contender for the tournament was Senior Peyton Hove. Peyton shot a 2-day total of 183 earning 16th place out of 100 girls competing. Tuesday she shot one of her best tournament scores of the season (84). Contributing to the girls’ 9th place team finish were Sophomores Autumn Gaspar and Grace Hove, and Junior Katie Hanson. Autumn

and Grace shaved several strokes from their first day scores also shooting their best season scores of 94 & 96 respectively. Autumn finished with a 196 which placed her in the top half of the field with Grace shooting a total of 203 and Katie a 231.

On the boys’ side, with 120 participants all four GHS golfers placed in the top half of the field led by Senior Rave Uhlich. Rave shot two consistent rounds of 87/89 to finish 41st. Supporting players were Senior Jake Schroeder, Sophomore Cooper Long, and Junior Ryan Flanagan. Jake and Cooper shot equal rounds of 181, tying for 48th. Jake had one of his best rounds on Tuesday carding an 84 while Cooper was close behind with an 86. Finishing for the squad, Ryan went 88/94 for 51st. The boys’ team also climbed the ladder team wise from day one to finish 9th overall with 18 teams competing.
