On Thursday, May 20, the Garretson Track team competed in the Region 3A Track & Field Meet at Tri-Valley. Overall, the women's team placed 4th and the men's team placed 6th.

Lily Ranschau again placed first in the 300m hurdles, a feat that has been repeated nearly every meet this season, and second in the 100m hurdles. Logan Bly again placed in the top two for the high jump, and Madden Lardy placed 2nd in the shot put. The girls' 3200m relay took home second place, and the boys' 3200m relay took home 3rd.

After a year hiatus due to the pandemic, Coach Jason Bohl said the team is looking forward to the State tournament to be held this week Friday and Saturday.

"This [season] marks the first year that the state is incorporating the 'Top 24'," said Coach Jason Bohl. "The top 24 times or distances in every event qualify for the state track meet."

Garretson qualified several athletes for State under this new system. Blue Dragons that will be heading to the State tournaments in Spearfish and Rapid City on May 28 and 29 include Lily Ranschau (100m hurdles, 300m hurdles), Logan Bly (high jump), Cooper Long (400m dash), Oliviyah Thornton (Shot put), Molly Hulscher (Shot put), Madden Lardy (Shot put), Girls 3200m Relay (Makayla Heesch, Kylie Christensen, Tayler Benson, Jordyn Williams), Boys 800m Relay (Dominic Abraham, Jayse Miller, Cody Erickson, Hunter Abraham), and Boys 3200m Relay (Cooper Long, Devon Leedy, Dylan Kindt, Cadyn Ockenga).

"We had a great bunch of kids to work with," said Coach Bohl, looking back at this past season. "We didn't have many meets where the weather cooperated, but the athletes did the best they could under the circumstances.  The coaching staff is excited about our athletes that we are bringing to Spearfish this weekend and we are optimistic with their chances."
