Garretson Legion Clinches Lead in Extra Innings to Defeat Tri-Valley

            Garretson Legion snagged a late lead and defeated Tri-Valley 9-5 on Thursday, July 7.  The game was tied at five with Garretson Legion batting in the top of the tenth when Colby Buseman doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

            The game held 0-0 through the first three innings. At the top of the 4th, Buseman singled on a pop fly, allowing Cole Koch to score the first point. They gathered four more points in the fifth and sixth innings.

            Tri-Valley scored five runs in the sixth inning. TV's #24, #5, and #48 powered the big inning with RBIs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Tri-Valley tied things up at five. 

            Buseman earned the victory on the hill for Garretson Legion. The hurler surrendered zero runs on one hit over four and a third innings, striking out 11 and walking zero.

            Koch and Isaiah Gnadt entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

            #5 started the game for Tri-Valley. The hurler went nine innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits and striking out three. #32 took the loss for Tri-Valley. The pitcher went one inning, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out one and walking one.

            Jayse Miller started the game for Garretson Legion. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight.

            Garretson Legion totaled 13 hits in the game.  Koch, Tayson Swatek, Dylan Kindt, Buseman, and Ryan Flanagan all had multiple hits for Garretson Legion. 

            Koch went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits.  Garretson Legion stole four bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Treyton Chester led the way with two.

            Tri-Valley racked up seven hits in the game.  #8 and #3 all collected multiple hits for Tri-Valley.  #8 led Tri-Valley with three hits in five at bats.

Dylan Throws Shutout as Garretson Legion Defeats Menno

            Dylan Kindt didn't allow a single run against Menno, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Garretson Legion to a 15-0 victory in 5 innings on Sunday, July 10, a scorcher of a day.

            Garretson Legion notched six runs in the fourth inning.  Garretson Legion batters contributing to the big inning included Treyton Chester, Kindt, and Cole Koch, who all drove in runs.

            A single by #27 in the first inning was a positive for Menno.

            Kindt got the win for Garretson Legion. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on four hits over five innings, striking out eight.

            "The boys came to play and had bats as hot as the weather," said coach Jay Swatek. "They put the pedal down and ended the game in the 5th inning with a 15-0 win and saving themselves and our fans 2 more innings of this heat!"

            #14 took the loss for Menno. The bulldog went four innings, allowing 11 runs on six hits and striking out four.

            Garretson Legion scattered nine hits in the game.  Chester, Ryan Flanagan, and Koch all collected multiple hits for Garretson Legion.  Chester went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits.  Garretson Legion stole nine bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Tayson Swatek led the way with two.

Garretson Legion Defeats Baltic Legion Post 175 in a Blow-Out Victory

            Garretson Legion easily did away with Baltic Legion Post 175 17-3 on Monday, July 11 in Baltic.

            Garretson Legion got on the board in the first inning when Tayson Swatek doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

            "Well, that was fun tonight!" exclaimed coach Jay Swatek. "Our Legion team took a 5-0 lead early against Baltic. They battled back to 5-3. We opened it back up to 9-3 before we poured it on."

            Garretson Legion scored eight runs in the seventh inning.  The big inning was thanks to singles by Carson Clark and Treyton Chester, a groundout by Cadyn Ockenga, a fielder's choice by Cole Koch, and an error on a ball put in play by Colby Buseman.

            Isaiah Gnadt took the win for Garretson Legion. The righthander surrendered two runs on two hits over three and a third innings, striking out five and walking one.  Buseman threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Buseman recorded the last 11 outs to earn the save for Garretson Legion.

            Garretson Legion had 14 hits in the game.  Swatek, Ryan Flanagan, Jayse Miller, and Buseman each collected multiple hits for Garretson Legion.  Swatek went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits.

            Regions will be played in Dell Rapids starting on Monday, July 18 at 3:00 p.m. The team will be taking on Baltic again, and the winner of that game will move on to Volga to play at 8:00 p.m.
