The Garretson Legion 18U team finished its season with a disappointing loss in Flandreau on Wednesday, July 21 against Volga. The 2021 Legion team consisted of players Carson Clark, Jayse Miller, Dylan Kindt, Cadyn Ockenga, Ryan Flanagan, Jake Schroeder, Evan Bly, Tayson Swatek, Nate Skillman, Grant Peterson, Isaiah Gnadt, Cole Koch, and Brady DeBates. They played several tough teams this season, and came away with an overall win-loss score of 5-8.

Garretson Legion Grabs Lead in Fourth Inning for Victory Over Dell Rapids

Garretson Legion snagged a late lead and defeated Dell Rapids 17-3 on Tuesday, July 20. The game was tied at one with Garretson Legion batting in the top of the fourth when Cole Koch singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Koch led Garretson Legion to victory by driving in four runs. Koch went 3-for-4 at the plate. Koch drove in runs on a single in the fourth, a single in the fifth, and a single in the sixth.

Garretson Legion got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for Garretson Legion.

In the bottom of the first inning, Dell Rapids tied things up at one. C Kittelson drove in one when Kittelson singled.

Garretson Legion pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning.

Garretson Legion tallied eight runs in the sixth inning. Garretson Legion offense in the inning was led by Brady DeBates, Evan Bly, Tayson Swatek, Ryan Flanagan, Jayse Miller, and Koch, who all drove in runs.

Isaiah Gnadt led the Garretson Legion to victory on the mound. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out six.

L Reusink took the loss for Dell Rapids. The hurler went five innings, allowing nine runs on ten hits and striking out two.

Garretson Legion saw the ball well today, racking up 16 hits in the game. Miller, Koch, Swatek, and DeBates each had multiple hits for Garretson Legion. Miller led Garretson Legion with four hits in five at bats.

A Roach Valandra went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Dell Rapids in hits.

Volga Post 114 Defeats Resilient Garretson Legion

Garretson Legion's effort to come back from down eight runs in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 14-12 to Volga Post 114 on Wednesday, July 21 in its final post-season game.

Garretson Legion tallied three runs in the failed comeback. Evan Bly and Carson Clark fueled the rally with RBIs.

Garretson Legion collected 13 hits and Volga Post 114 had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

Garretson Legion got on the board in the first inning when Ryan Flanagan grounded out, scoring one run.

Volga Post 114 pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Caleb Elijah drew a walk, scoring one run, Damien Danziesen singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Parker Puetz doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Carson Christopherson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and Conner Logan doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Garretson Legion put up five runs in the fifth inning. Garretson Legion scored its runs on a single by Bly.

Conner Gross was the winning pitcher for Volga Post 114. Gross went five innings, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits and striking out one. Jake Ziegler threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Ziegler recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Volga Post 114.

Jayse Miller took the loss for Garretson Legion. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing nine hits and ten runs while striking out five.

Garretson Legion totaled 13 hits in the game. Jake Schroeder, Nate Skillman, Tayson Swatek, and Bly all collected multiple hits for Garretson Legion. Skillman and Schroeder each managed three hits to lead Garretson Legion.

Volga Post 114 racked up 13 hits in the game. Christopherson, Puetz, Logan, and Danziesen all managed multiple hits for Volga Post 114. Christopherson led Volga Post 114 with four hits in four at bats.
