Garretson had a solid win in Parkston last Friday, Sept. 3.
“We played with better effort this week and that was one of our goals,” said Head Coach Chris Long. “Anytime you have to play two games within five days it’s hard. But for us to come out and handle some adversity and make plays was impressive. It was a great win for us.”
Garretson scored the only goal in the first quarter with Dylan Kindt making a pass to Cadyn Ockenga for 8 yards in the end zone. A solid kick into the goal from Jenna VanHolland put the Blue Dragons to 7-0.
The Dragons held back the tide until the tail end of the second quarter, when Kaleb Weber from Parkston made a two yard run for a touchdown. Their two point conversion attempt failed however.
The Dragons rallied and Kindt managed a 33-yard pass to Cooper Long who made a touchdown. Again, VanHolland came through with a point kick delivery.
At the start of the third quarter, Garretson again pushed forward for a touchdown, as Kindt ran it in himself 31 yards for a touchdown. VanHolland didn’t miss a beat and scored with another successful kick.
Parkson fought back, and mid third quarter managed to grind their way for a 1 yard run touchdown by Cole Prunty, though Prunty’s follow up two point conversion attempt was stopped.
At the end of the third quarter, the Blue Dragons got another touchdown as Kindt passed to Ryan Flanagan for 10 yards. VanHolland scored her fourth extra-point goal for the night.
After gaining possession in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, Hunter Abraham had a great 21-yard run for another Blue Dragon touchdown. VanHolland had her fifth extra point kick success, putting the Dragons 35-12. Parkston rallied with a minute and half left on the clock, for a touchdown and extra point, but it was too little too late for them, with Garretson winning 35-20.
“Several guys had really good games but it starts up front with our offensive and defensive lines. Dylan Jessen, Gabe Johnson, Jaden Richter, Clay Lardy, Ryan Flanagan and Adam Hulscher all gave us great minutes,” said Coach Chris Long. “Dylan (Kindt) really settled in the end of the first half and the second half. He went for a stretch where he was 9-11 passing and make some plays with his legs, too. If he makes good decisions we can be very effective offensively.”
Garretson (2-1), will host Arlington-Lake Preston this Friday for our homecoming game!
