The Garretson Area Historical Society met Tuesday, August 27 at the museum. Present were Bruce Brown, Barb Marsh, Margie Martens, Kelli Schleuter, Jim Kurtz, and Karen Rzepecki. Absent were Gloria Sanders and Chris Engebretson. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved.
Old business: Heartland Glass installed the new replacement window in the south bank building and it looks great.
Judy delivered Garretson history books to Bethany Meadows in Brandon for their library.
No rain entered the north window as of the last rain — we will continue monitoring.
The ceilings in both sides of the museum need work. Inspection and repair of the false ceiling in the south building is needed as it previously sustained water damage prior to roof repair. The metal ceiling in the north building also requires inspection.
The state electrical inspector has not been here to review the recent electrical updates.
New business: BBQs and Bingo will be held on Saturday, October 19 at the Legion. The meal will start at 5pm and bingo will follow at 6:30pm. Judy will apply to Thrivent for help covering expenses. There will be free will donation for the meal. This year we will presell tickets to play bingo and tickets will be collected between games. There will be a 50% payout of proceeds for each game. Come and enjoy a good time!
Todd Kringen has made a bull whip for the museum as a fundraiser. We plan to draw for the whip during the Garretson Old-fashioned Christmas Days in December. Tickets will go on sale at the BBQ and bingo event. Hopefully Todd will do some demonstrations for us and we can aspire to his level of expertise. More information forthcoming.
It’s Newsletter time again so we will sharpen our pencils.
The motion passed to renew Mr. Moritz’s Gazette subscription. We do appreciate his membership, gift, and interest in our museum and town.
Our next meeting will be Monday, September 23, 7pm at the museum.
Respectfully submitted,
Kelli Schleuter, secretary and Barb Marsh, president
