GARRETSON AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY 2020 Greetings from the President

Date:

2020 Greetings from the President -

2020 has been quite a year! Board meetings have been masked and distanced. Hours and visitors have been haphazard. We did get things done and MUCH more to do.

The carpeting in the drug store half of the building was shampooed and we discovered that the color was not grey, but blue! Of course, many things had to be moved to the bank side which began a reorganization of most everything. Are we done? Absolutely not. But bit by bit we're changing things around.

Don Dorsman gifted us with a collection of telephones from over the years, so now our display has been completely redone to cover Garretson Telephone Co-op to Alliance Communications. A great business model to take pride in, that continues to enhance our whole community to this day. Also, the military section has changed, the Marion Henjum display has been relocated, we have plans to organize school stuff to be more user-friendly, the bank section will be totally updated, new mayor's pictures are being hung. Phew. And yes, there will be more.

We are all terribly sad at the loss of two of our greatest supporters this year. John Garretson and Grant Kringen are deeply mourned and missed. May their souls rest in peace.

Due to covid our usual annual meeting, which occurs in January of each year, is being postponed to a later date, yet to be determined. We will keep you informed.

Stay safe and healthy everyone.

- Barb Marsh
