With five games under its belt, the Garretson Legion 18U baseball team has a record of 2 wins and three losses for the season so far as they enter their second month. They'll be up against Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls teams tomorrow (Friday) at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. They play their next home game on Saturday versus the Jackson, MN team at 9:30 a.m.

Garretson Legion 18U Defeats Legion Flandreau Post 70 in Blow Out Victory Thanks to Seventh Inning Boost

The Garretson Legion 18U baseball team defeated Legion Flandreau Post 70 14-3 on Wednesday, June 2, thanks to eight runs in the seventh inning. Garretson Legion offense in the inning was led by Ryan Flanagan, Brady DeBates, Nate Skillman, Dylan Kindt, and Tayson Swatek, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Garretson Legion got on the board in the first inning. Swatek grounded out, scoring one run.

Garretson Legion put up eight runs in the seventh inning. The offensive firepower by Garretson Legion was led by Flanagan, DeBates, Skillman, Kindt, and Swatek, who each had runs batted in (RBIs) in the inning.

Isaiah Gnadt led things off on the hill for Garretson Legion. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out seven.

Sam Gassman was on the hill for Legion Flandreau Post 70. The pitcher surrendered four runs on two hits over four innings, striking out two. Tanner Christenson and Hunter Witte entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.

Garretson Legion totaled 13 hits in the game. Kindt, Carson Clark, Skillman, Swatek, and Flanagan each managed multiple hits for Garretson Legion. Kindt went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits. Garretson Legion tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Clark led the way with three.

Legion Flandreau Post 70 didn't commit a single error in the field. Gassman had the most chances in the field with six.

Early Lead for Post 307 Legion II Seals Fate for Garretson Legion 18U

Garretson Legion 18U watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 16-5 loss to Post 307 Legion II at their second game of the season on Tuesday, June 15. Post 307 Legion IIscored on a groundout by P Konechne, a single by Q Dunham, a single by T VanWasdenhave, a double by W Hermsen, a single by T Heckenlaible, a double by K Wenande, a double by G Hoffman, and a single by Dunham in the first inning.

The Garretson Legion struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Post 307 Legion II, giving up 16 runs.

In the first inning, Post 307 Legion II got their offense started when Konechne grounded out, scoring one run.

Garretson Legion put up five runs in the fourth inning. Garretson Legion batters contributing to the big inning included Nate Skillman, Brady DeBates, Grant Peterson, and Dylan Kindt, who each had RBIs in the inning.

I Scherbring earned the win for Post 307 Legion II. The bulldog allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero. M Bennett and VanWasdenhave entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Isaiah Gnadt took the loss for Garretson Legion. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, allowing 13 runs on ten hits.

Garretson Legion collected eight hits on the day. Tayson Swatek and Skillman each managed multiple hits for Garretson Legion. Swatek led Garretson Legion with three hits in three at bats. Garretson Legion didn't commit a single error in the field. Jake Schroeder had four chances in the field, the most on the team.

Post 307 Legion II racked up 15 hits in the game. Hoffman, Dunham, Heckenlaible, Wenande, and Hermsen all managed multiple hits for Post 307 Legion II. Post 307 Legion II didn't commit a single error in the field. VanWasdenhave had the most chances in the field with five.

Post 1 Captures Lead Early to Defeat Garretson Legion

Garretson Legion 18U fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-1 loss to Post 1 on Tuesday, June 22.

The Garretson Legion struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Post 1, giving up ten runs.

Post 1 scored on a triple by Dylan Thelen and a sacrifice fly by Jake Jensen in the first inning. They opened up scoring in the first inning. Thelen tripled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Post 1 scored seven runs in the fifth inning. Post 1 batters contributing to the big inning included Charlie Ward and Willis Robertson, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Jensen pitched Post 1 to victory. Jensen went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Reece Proefrock threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Isaiah Gnadt took the loss for Garretson Legion. Gnadt lasted four innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five.

Tayson Swatek went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits.

TJ Tracy led Post 1 with three hits in four at bats. Post 1 was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Tracy had the most chances in the field with eight.

Garretson Legion Smack Nine Hits, Lose to Sioux Falls

Both Sioux Falls and Garretson Legion had their offenses going on Wednesday, June 23, but Garretson Legion 18U eventually succumbed 14-6 in the high-scoring affair.

The Garretson Legion struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Sioux Falls, giving up 14 runs.

Garretson Legion opened up an early lead in the second inning when Brady DeBates singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Sioux Falls took the lead for good with eight runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth J Nesje singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, K Schroder doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, N Pellicotte singled on a 2-0 count, scoring three runs, E Nathan singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, and B Moet doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

C Swanson earned the win for Sioux Falls. The fireballer went four and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out two. I Pullen threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Jake Schroeder took the loss for Garretson Legion. Schroeder surrendered eight runs on six hits over three and a third innings.

Jayse Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Garretson Legion in hits.

Sioux Falls collected 12 hits on the day. Pellicotte, Nathan, and Nesje each collected multiple hits for Sioux Falls. Pellicotte led Sioux Falls with three hits in four at bats.

Garretson Legion Shuts Out Sioux Falls

Dylan Kindt threw a shutout to lead Garretson Legion 18U past Sioux Falls 3-0 on Tuesday.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Kindt struck out 13, while Sioux Falls pitchers sat down seven.

A single by C Swanson in the fourth inning was a positive for Sioux Falls.

Kindt was the winning pitcher for Garretson Legion. The southpaw lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 13.

J Klopstad took the loss for Sioux Falls. The pitcher surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out five and walking one.

Ryan Flanagan, Kindt, Tayson Swatek, Nate Skillman, Brady DeBates, Jake Schroeder, and Cadyn Ockenga each collected one hit to lead Garretson Legion.

Swanson went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Sioux Falls in hits.
