Last week, the 14U baseball team played in the SDVFW 14U Class B Region Tournament in Garretson. The first two games were held Monday evening, with the team prevailing in both.
Their third game, the championship round, was held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Garretson. While the first game saw Hamlin inch over the plate to snag the win, the playoffs were a resounding rebuttal, resulting in a 12-2 win by Garretson to ensure the Regional Championship slot!
State baseball playoffs will be held in Bryant, SD July 22-24.
"We dropped the first game 7-8 but the boys in blue responded like the champs they are and got the job done," said coach Aaron Christensen. He pointed out that Garretson has every right to be proud of the team, and thanked the community for its amazing support.
SDVFW 14U Garretson Falls to SDVFW 14U Hamlin After Seventh Inning Score
SDVFW 14U Garretson stayed in it until the end, but SDVFW 14U Hamlin pulled away late in an 8-7 victory on Wednesday. The game was tied at seven with SDVFW 14U Hamlin batting in the top of the seventh when Kelby Hauck singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
SDVFW 14U Garretson collected 12 hits and SDVFW 14U Hamlin had ten in the high-scoring affair.
SDVFW 14U Hamlin opened up scoring in the first inning, when Parker Boerger singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
After SDVFW 14U Hamlin scored one run in the top of the third, SDVFW 14U Garretson answered with one of their own. SDVFW 14U Garretson then answered when Cole Jessen grounded out, scoring one run.
SDVFW 14U Garretson notched four runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Treyton Decker, Collin Olson, and Dan Hoskins.
Watson Grantham got the start for SDVFW 14U Hamlin. Grantham lasted seven innings, allowing 12 hits and seven runs while striking out two.
Decker was on the hill for SDVFW 14U Garretson. The bulldog went two and a third innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out two and walking zero. Drew Chester, Issac Stoterau, and Olson each contributed in relief for SDVFW 14U Garretson.
SDVFW 14U Garretson totaled 12 hits. Carter Siemonsma and Decker each collected multiple hits for SDVFW 14U Garretson. Siemonsma led SDVFW 14U Garretson with three hits in four at bats. SDVFW 14U Garretson stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Tyler Erickson led the way with two.
SDVFW 14U Hamlin scattered ten hits in the game. Grantham, Hauck, and Boerger all managed multiple hits for SDVFW 14U Hamlin. Boerger led SDVFW 14U Hamlin with five stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 14 stolen bases.

Issac Stoterau led the way with two.
