Featured Business: Bill Benson’s Body Shop of Sherman to offer more services

Benson’s Body Shop has been in business for the last 39 years, and though Bill Benson says he’s not getting any younger, he’s also planning to diversify what he does. Benson said that as things slowed down during the pandemic, it got him thinking about more jobs he could potentially do for local customers. He plans to continue the services he already provides, autobody work, automotive painting, auto glass replacement and door work, but he is now expanding his business model to include several new services.

“I can provide mower blade sharpening services, light welding and gluing,” he said. “I can also do some odd jobs, as I’ve learned more than a few carpentry skills along the way. I’ve also done insurance work in the past as well. Right now, people have a need for these sorts of things in this area, and it’s something I can definitely help with. Things they’d otherwise have to go to Brandon or all the way to Sioux Falls to get work done on. That is, if they can even find anybody who’s available, or get put on a waiting list. I’ve got a common-sense shop approach to things, and can certainly work in and around the surrounding area. If you have an odd job, give me a call and ask, chances are I’ll have done it in the past, and if I don’t know how to do it, I’ll tell you straight out.  If Fred the Fixer can do it, so can Bill the builder.”

So, no change of business location or thinking of hanging up his wrenches and hammers quite yet, instead he wants to diversify and see where that takes him.

“I am 57 now, and though I’m not ready to retire just yet, I want to keep myself busy, and I think this will be a good way to do that. People I’ve done work for in the past seem to like what I’ve done, so I want to keep doing that for a bit longer. “
