The family of Doug Williamson hosted the Dougy Classic Golf Tournament this past August at River Ridge Golf Course. Doug grew up on a family homestead South of Garretson and raised his kids in this community.
He loved Garretson and the folks that lived here. He was a proud member of the Garretson Jaycees & slow pitch softball team, Garretson City Council, and held the Mayor seat from 2000-2004.
His wife, Marilyn, and kids Todd Williamson, Leah Jones, and Broc Gulseth host a benefit golf tournament to honor Doug and keep his memory alive. Last year, the family was able to donate a total of $2,000 to the Garretson Fire Department, Ambulance and Scholarship Foundation. With the help of all who attended the 2021 Dougy Classic, the family donated $3,500 back to the community of Garretson. This past fall, a donation was made to the American Legion Honor Flight. Recently, checks were presented to the Children’s Miracle Network in honor of Tina Sandbulte, Garretson Community Scholarship Foundation, and Grow Garretson Parks Department.
The family would like to thank the following sponsors that made the Dougy Classic a huge success: Jesse James Country Store, Garretson Food Center, Steve’s Electric, Don’s Auto, Sports Cabin, CHS Elevator, River Ridge Golf Club, The Gulch, Make It Mine, and Republic Distributing Company.
Anna & Jake Jones present Norinda Northrup a check for $250 to the Children’s Miracle Network in honor of her daughter, Tina Sandbulte.
Leah Jones presents Kelli Schlueter, member of the Parks Board, with a check for $500 towards park improvements.
Anna Jones presents Tad Heitkamp, member of the Garretson Community Scholarship Foundation Board, a check for $2,000 to award two GHS seniors with scholarships.
