With Garretson having a couple foreign exchange students every year for the last few years, Blue Dragons have gotten used to spurts of different cultures joining the school.
This year David Santa Cruz was able to come to school here at Garretson High School. David came from Spain and when asked which country he liked the most between Spain and the U.S.A, he answered, “Poland.”
When it comes to school in Spain, they use a numerical system instead of our As and Bs. So if you get a 9 out of 10, you would get a 9 instead of an A. With college in Spain, there are a few differences. First of all, it is free but it is a lot harder to get in and you have a couple small tests, and then at the end there is a big test that is over the entire class.
When it comes to David’s favorite things, his favorite American food is McDonald’s fries and Big Mac. His favorite Spanish food is croquetas which is ham and a bechamele sauce that is fried. His favorite candy is Sour Patch Kids or sour gummy worms. Lastly, when it comes to what country's food is better overall, he said Spain’s.
David is enjoying his time in Garretson and looking forward to finding ways to continue to be involved as a Blue Dragon. In Spain he was a highly ranked fencer but gave up that sport a little before coming to America. He is considering going out for wrestling this winter.
In his short time here, David has already had a positive impact on Garretson.
