Mayor Greg Beaner also pointed out that camper ordinances help to protect property owners, especially if a camper is blown over due to uneven ground, as it could damage neighbor’s property. He said also, “The ordinance is trying to prevent people from parking in one spot all summer, and to keep campers and trailers out of the right of way and off sidewalks.” He continued, stating that this part of the ordinance had been in place long before the new one took effect, and the only update was the requirement for an improved area and specifically where a property owner could park on the lot. Some examples were presented of RV’s that had triggered the ordinance to be explored last year.
Part of the discussion contained a reminder that the city now has a code enforcer, who will be educating the community as part of the job description. So, while in the past certain ordinances were not enforced, starting this year they will be. Community member Colleen Collier reiterated an idea that had been brought up earlier in the meeting, where an informational meeting regarding city ordinances might be useful, but the council did not take any action.
They then voted to adjourn. The next meeting of the City Council will be on Monday, April 1 at 6:30 pm at the Legion. The Equalization meeting will be held on Monday, March 18 at 6:30 pm at City Hall. For questions regarding equalization, please contact the City.
