On Tuesday, April 20, the Garretson Track Team made its way to Alcester for the BAH-Mike Seivert Invitational, competing against Parker, Beresford, Dell Rapids St. Mary's, Flandreau, Alcester-Hudson, Dell Rapids, and Baltic. The men’s' team placed second with 86.5 points, behind first place Beresford. Dell Rapids took third place at 83 points.
“Even though it was cold, we had a pretty good day,” said coach Jason Bohl. “Athletes that finished first in the events were: Jaden Richter(Shot Put), Logan Bly (High Jump), Medley Relay(Dom Abraham, Jayse Miller, Cooper Long, Cadyn Ockenga), and the 3200m Relay (Preston Bohl, Cadyn Ockenga, Dylan Kindt, Cooper Long).
“We are a little over halfway through our season and are looking forward to meets when the temperature is above 50. This year to qualify for the State Track Meet, an athlete must have one of the top 24 times/distances in their event. Currently we have several tracksters that are in that category and we are excited about the possible numbers that we may have represent Garretson in the State Track Meet in Spearfish.”
Outstanding results for the men's team came from a 1st place finish in the 3200m relay and the 1600m sprint relay and Jaden Richter's 1st place shot put throw that landed 40'10" away. Jaden's 2nd place opponent was Tanner Reed of Flandreau, who threw 40'7".
The men continued to place high with Dominic Abraham's 2nd place finish in the 200m dash, Preston Bohl's 2nd place finish in the 1600m run, a 2nd place finish in the 800m relay, and Cody Erickson's 3rd place finishes in the high jump and long jump categories.
The women's team placed 5th overall, but individual placements did well. Logan Bly won the high jump category with her jump of 4'11", not only making her personal PR, but surpassing Garretson High School's PR record as well. Kylie Christensen followed closely behind with a 2nd place finish on a jump of 4'6".
Lily Ranschau continued to dominate in the hurdles, placing 1st in both the 100m and 300m hurdles. She beat her 2nd place opponents by 1.4 seconds and nearly 2 seconds, respectively. Molly Hulscher and Madden Lardy stayed neck-in-neck in the shot put, placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively, with a 33'1.75" throw and a 33'1.5" throw. The girls 3200m relay placed 2nd.
