Blue Dragon C team drops one; JV disposes of McCook Central- Montrose

Date:

Cory Buchholz, coach

On Friday Feb. 5, the Garretson Blue Dragons traveled to Montrose to battle the McCook Central-Montrose Cougars.

The Blue Dragons’ “C” team took on the MCM Cougars and came away with a 20-36 loss. “Once again we didn’t come out with any sort of fire or spark to start the game. After a sluggish first quarter and being down by sixteen going into the second, we finally started to show signs of life. As I have said before, if we would just come out and play all four quarters of each game we play, many of these losses will turn into wins,” stated Coach Buchholz.

Blaine Trower had the best game he has had in his young Blue Dragon career and led all scorers with 11 points. Clay Lardy had a great game off the bench and tallied 6 second quarter points of his own. Treyton Chester and Junior Olson rounded out the scoring for the “C” team each with 2 and 1 points of their own.

In the JV contest, there was no question that the visiting team wanted to make a statement. “Once again the first quarter was a little slow for us. Once we got out, pushed tempo, knocked down shots, and kept defensive pressure on their guards we really controlled the game from the second quarter on. If we can come out of the locker room and start the game with the mentality that we are going to put the game away early every single time, we will be tough to beat,” Coach Buchholz added.

Sam Schleuter had a huge night shooting the rock as he tallied a Blue Dragon career high of 20 points (5 3-point buckets). The big man in the middle, Rhett Kloth, also had a huge game for us as he tallied 11 points and 9 blocked shots on the defensive end. Our opposite post, Clay Lardy, wanted to get into the scoring action and scored 9 hard earned point of his own. Cadyn Ockenga and Matthew Gilbert rounded out the scoring with 5 points and 2 points of their own.

The Blue Dragons are set to take on the Pheasants from Parker in a Big East Conference rematch next week Tuesday in Parker and return home next Thursday to face the Sioux Valley Cossacks in the Dragon’s Lair. Come out and support the young Blue Dragons!!
