It should surprise nobody at all that the Blue Dragon Academy is already looking to expand their building and operation.
“Right now, we have 105 kids enrolled and 35 on our waiting list,” said Kris Frerk, who is on the governing board for BDA. “We knew when we built the building that we were going to have to expand sooner rather than later, but when you apply for things like bank loans and financing you have to start somewhere and set attainable goals to get the building built and up and running first. We’ve done that, and pretty successfully. Now we’re ready to do more!"
Frerk said that she’s hoping for a 1,500 square foot addition to the current structure. The initial plans are to add more classrooms to accommodate the before and after school students, which would eliminate the need for the preschool program to share space.
“We are actively pursuing fundraising as of now, and September 12 will be our first official fundraising event,” Frerk said. “We are going to have an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast, catered by Chris’ Cakes. They have a very cool system, and their pancake machine makes an amazing 48 pancakes per minute! So, we’ll be featuring their pancakes and condiment bar at the Legion from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. We’ll also be having a character breakfast, with cosplayers and mascots for children to take photos with characters like Bell and Yoda. We’ll also be hosting a Touch a Truck, service trucks, Fire Trucks and Emergency Services vehicles, that kids will be able to climb into. A large truck show and tell outside. We will also be hosting a raffle and silent auction.”
A month later, on October 9, they are also planning to host a local vendor fair, and at that fair Frerk said to expect Annie’s Coffee Shop cinnamon rolls to be served. More details to follow.
