Garretson Blue Dragon Baseball is still searching for a morale-boosting win as it approaches the end of the season, having lost to Dell Rapids last Wednesday and Flandreau/Colman-Egan on Monday.
The young team saw the Dell Rapids Quarriers score 10 points in the bottom of the 3rd inning, stealing the joy from Tyler Erickson's single-point score at the top of the 3rd.
Treyton Decker hit the ball that sent Erickson over home plate, singling on a line drive to left field. Dylan Wolf and Cole Schleuter also managed to sneak hits past the Dells team, though they weren't able to convert them into points.
Caiden Maack took the mound for the Blue Dragons, pitching three innings. He struck out one, walked 3, and allowed 10 hits. He was followed by Dan Hoskins pitching relief. Hoskins struck out one and walked two.
They ended the game 1-13 in favor of the Quarriers.
The Dragons again took to the field on Monday, heading to Flandreau to take on the Flandreau/Colman-Egan team. Though they lost, the team gathered 6 points to FCE's 11 points.
Garretson took its first point at the top of the first inning, as Erickson scored on a wild pitch. Earlier, Erickson had successfully stolen second and advanced to third when teammate Ian Buettner grounded out to the second baseman. They gathered two more points in the third inning when Erickson again scored on a wild pitch, followed by Buettner scoring on a wild pitch.
Though they also gained one point in the sixth and two more at the top of the seventh inning, the team was unable to overcome the five-point lead FCE had after a strong showing in the bottom of the sixth, where FCE had scored 4 times and adding to the 7 points they already had on the board.
Pitching for the Blue Dragons were Decker and Brecken Weir. Decker took on 28 batters over 4.1 innings, striking out 6 and allowing 3 hits. Weir faced 7 batters, walking one and allowing one hit.
On Tuesday, the Dragons hosted the McCook Central/Montrose Burros (results not avaialbe at press time), and will be playing their final game of the regular season tonight (Thursday) on Tandberg Field at 5:30 p.m.
