AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY – MARCH

Date:

The American Legion Auxiliary met on March 5, beginning with a pot luck salad supper together at 7:00. Chairman, Cheryl Lyngen, opened the meeting and Chaplain, Sue, began with prayer.

Roll Call of officers indicated one absent.

The secretary’s minutes were read, approved and placed on file.

The treasurer’s report was read, approved and placed on file for audit.

Cheryl reported that our membership is now at 168 with a goal of 176.

Card Chairperson, Winnie, stated that one card was sent.

Bingo was conducted at Palisade HealthCare in February with JoAnn and Devona chairing it and other volunteers.

A report on the mid-winter conference held at Oacoma was given by Kathy and Cheryl. The meetings and events were interesting and informative.

Many girl scouts (some ALA junior members) gave many valentines to veterans and others in our town in February.

We have received 6 Girls State applications. Lois moved that we accept all 6 and the motion was seconded by Denise so all 6 students will be attending Girls State.

Poems and essays from our school were read and evaluated and the appropriate winners are being sent on to the next level.
Our unit member of the year is Liz Bennett. Her work is very much appreciated and she will represent our unit at the district meeting in Dell Rapids.

Bingo will be at Palisade Health Care on March 11 and it will be again chaired by DeVona and JoAnne with other volunteers.

Our next meeting is April 2 with Steak night beginning at 6:30 and we will present the Legion with a birthday cake.

Sue gave the closing prayer and the door prize was won by Diane.

-Ethel Kurtz, secretary
