Ag Phd Field day was fun for the whole family

“Lots of folks in the area might have heard about it, but until you see it for yourself you won’t believe it. Just a little west of us in the rural Baltic Area is Hefty Seed Company and the family farm of Brian and Darren Hefty. Every year they host their Ag Phd Field Day Event. This year marked their 20th Anniversary.

On the drive in, flags flew on either side of the road, not just the Stars and Stripes but every state flag in the Union and every flag for each branch of the military, as well as national flags for our international neighbors. Parking in the pasture, just the number of cars and pickup trucks, li cense plates as diverse as the flags, gave you a scope of how many people were in attendance. Some came on large passenger busses and many others no doubt flew in. Speaking of flight, as this reporter arrived, Vanguard Squadron began their aerial show over the grounds of the festival.

Having been to farm expos more than once and state fairs a time or twenty, there were all the usual features. Companies with their products on display, etc. What struck a cord though was the live music (Mollie B and the Squeezbox Band playing live Polka music) as the people lined up for a free lunch. (Continued on page 2)
