A light shining in the darkness

Let’s be candid here folks. The great American experiment is only a blink in the eye of human history. The peace and freedom most Americans experience in their daily lives is the exception to the often brutal, bloody and tyrannical history of the human race. Independence Day is the celebration of a nation that was founded to be by the people and for the people. It is not perfect. It has flaws. But we as a nation have made a commitment to always strive to be better. To live up to high ideals so that all people might enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Even with the news at its worst; with the pandemic re-surging and difficult times and difficult choices facing us a nation, we can find hope and joy. I want to thank the members of the American Legion Post #23 for reminding us, that we can be the light that shines in the darkness. -G. Moritz, Gazette (photos by Carrie Moritz)
