Bikers heading for Sherman is nothing new, as often charity rides host events there. But these bikers were a little different, not riding Harley’s but Schwinns. If you happened to be driving on Minnehaha County Highway 141 on the Morning of Wednesday, July 25, you would most certainly have seen cyclists on the 2018 Northern Transcontinental PAC (Pacific-Atlantic Cycling) Tour. These ambitious cyclists started in Everett in Washington State and are traveling to Rye Beach, New Hampshire. The total journey is 3,569 miles, will take 31-32 days and require 94,490 feet of climbing elevation while riding. The route took them through Washington state, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, just over the border to the Canadian side of Niagara falls, into New York and finally to the New England states ending in New Hampshire.
“The tour is a big one, a lot of people use this tour to train for other marathon courses,” said Susan Notorangelo, one of the PAC organizers. We caught up with her just as she was packing up the food wagon, after the PAC tour of cyclists had stopped at Sherman’s Strom Park to feed the hungry travelers.
“We started out from Mitchell, SD this morning and are headed for Worthington today,” Notorangelo said. “Sherman was at about the midpoint on the route, so we broke here for lunch. This is the kind of place we like to stop, the park was perfect for our needs and the people were very friendly.” (Continued on page 2)
