The Garretson Post #23 14U team is off to its summer start, packing five games under its belt in the past two weeks. Currently, the team is at 0-5, but with a full month of games ahead of them, the young team has plenty of opportunities to find its groove.
Garretson 14U Struggles to Find Groove Against West Central Royal
Garretson 14U had trouble keeping up with West Central Royal in a 17-0 loss on Wednesday, May 26.
A single by Noah Schotzko in the second inning was a positive for Garretson 14U.
Holewa led things off on the mound for West Central Royal. Holewa allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking one.
Cole Jessen started the game for Garretson 14U. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Ian Buettner and Caleb Westerbur entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively.
Schotzko went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead Garretson 14U in hits.
Mulder led West Central Royal with two hits in three at bats. West Central Royal tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Holewa led the way with three.
Garretson 14U Stays Competitive, Bested by Hamlin
On Tuesday, June 1, Garretson 14U and Hamlin played a tight game, but Hamlin pulled out the 10-8 victory. The game was tied at eight with Hamlin batting in the bottom of the fifth when Dylan Wolf induced Ted Smith to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Despite the loss, Garretson 14U did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hamlin had six hits on the way to victory.
Hamlin captured the lead in the first inning. Hamlin scored two runs on a stolen base.
After Garretson 14U scored three runs in the top of the second, Hamlin answered with three of their own. Garretson 14U scored when Tyler Erickson singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs and Ian Buettner grounded out, scoring one run. Hamlin then answered when an error scored one run for Hamlin and Smith drew a walk, scoring one run.
Rylan Thue was on the hill for Hamlin. The bulldog lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out two.
Treyton Decker toed the rubber for Garretson 14U. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and striking out two. Cole Jessen and Wolf entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings and two innings respectively.
Garretson 14U saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Buettner and Noah Schotzko all managed multiple hits for Garretson 14U. Garretson 14U Can't Hold Up Against Dell Rapids
Garretson 14U struggled to get their offense going on Friday, June 4, getting easily dispatched by Dell Rapids, 20-2.
Cole led things off on the pitcher's mound for Dell Rapids. The fireballer surrendered two runs on five hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Dan Hoskins led things off on the hill for Garretson 14U. The pitcher lasted one-third of an inning, allowing five hits and eight runs. Riley Lafferty-Mack, Caleb Westerbur, Dylan Wolf, and Treyton Decker each entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings, two-thirds of an inning, one-third of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
Ian Buettner led Garretson 14U with two hits in two at bats.
Dell Rapids collected 14 hits. Brandon, Coope, Tala, Lincoln, and Tad all had multiple hits for Dell Rapids. Brandon went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Dell Rapids in hits. Grady led Dell Rapids with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases. Dell Rapids was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Coope had the most chances in the field with five.
Madison Maroon Runs Away with Early Lead In Victory
Garretson 14U watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 15-3 loss to the Madison Maroon on Saturday, June 5. Madison Maroon scored on a home run by Veenhof, a double by R Johnson, and a double by Dosset in the first inning.
The Garretson 14U struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Madison Maroon, giving up 15 runs.
In the first inning, Garretson 14U got their offense started. An error scored one run for Garretson 14U.
Madison Maroon scored four runs in the fourth inning. Madison Maroon offense in the inning was led by Dosset and Seely, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
