Installation of Sanitary Sewer on Third Street Continues

Date:

Installation of the Sanitary Sewer continues on 3rd Street. The project consists of reconstruction of the street and utilities on Third Street from Depot Avenue to Oak Avenue, Main Avenue from Second Street to Fifth Street, Railroad Avenue from Dows Street to Essex Street, Essex Street from Railroad Avenue to Granite Avenue and Granite Avenue from Essex Street to First Street. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 is the improvements of 3rd Street and Main Avenue and will be completed in 2018. Phase 2 is the improvements of the Truck Route and will be completed in 2019.

The contractor, Haarsma Construction, is finishing up the sanitary sewer main between Eastern Avenue and Sherman Avenue. Once the main is in, they will install the sanitary services between these streets. In addition, the sanitary sewer from Center Avenue to 709 3rd Street needs to be installed. The rain we received the last couple of weeks has delayed this.

The water services are near completion between Center Avenue and Eastern Avenue as well. Once all the connections are complete, these residents will move from temporary water to the new main line. The water services are expected to be switched over within the next couple of weeks. Following all of this, water main will be placed between Eastern Avenue and Sherman Avenue.

Sayre Associates, Inc. is providing the construction administration and on-site observation for the project. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact Cole Gebhart at or (605) 321-3868; or Doug Hoy at or (605) 940-1055. Construction bulletins will detail the progress of the project as it is constructed and will be distributed every two weeks on Monday. If you would like to receive newsletters or short updates regarding any project changes, please email Carrie at or call (605) 332-7211 to be placed on the email distribution list.
