Garretson choir students have always been known for their loud and commanding voices. It's no surprise that the battle for a coveted spot in the All State Choir quartet was intense. Many tried out, but only eight people got the chance to be involved.
Garretson gets to have one quartet and four alternate singers, based on school size. This year, Aliah Lymon sang soprano, Aftyn Heitkamp sang alto, Trevor Feigen sang tenor, and Zebadiah Johnson sang baritone. They got to sing in Honor Choir as well as practice for the All-state performance. Both the quartet and the alternates were involved with honor band, but only the top four got to sing in the big show.
Eight to nine hundred kids enrolled in a high school in our state come together to sing eight songs, along with “The Star Spangled Banner."
This year, they performed in Sioux Falls at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. A few of the songs are performed with musical accompaniment of the All-State Orchestra participants. They are led by an accomplished director and musician that is brought in from out of state, and usually has years of experience directing choirs. (Continued on Page 3 of our on-line issue)
